When music brings us up short and holds us in its thrall, we visit another world to wander, consider or feel its meaning, its implications. In my paintings I aim for a similar kind of persistence that takes the spectators, including me, outside ourselves and makes connections, cerebral, emotional or otherwise.

Just as snippets of music and larger works like symphonies invade our consciousness, so do visual stimuli such as paintings. I am gradually moving from the visual jingle (small) to the broader operatic stage (large). It is where I would like to be. In discussions with local composers of music and studying previous artists such as Klee, Kandinsky, Mitchell, Martin, Diebenkorn and Ryman, I am developing and refining my ideas about the similarities and the differences between painting and music. Their fluidity and our instinctive responses to them intrigue me...
