SHAPES FROM THE AIR*
A slow release,
Of association, intimation, recognition.
A gentle curve, a corner discovered,
A shadow sensed, a space allowed,
A planar vision, a delicate pavane,
A visual walk along unknown paths.
No illustration of pondered theory,
Or statement on the condition of the world.
Rather, a meandering reflection of an obsession
With colour and shape, and how they slink together
And give each other support,
And energy.
Seeking no meaning for myself,
And with no desire to guide your view,
I offer visual poems, or surfaces akin to music,
Where the colours and shapes
Act on me, and you, with elegant line,
Counterpoint, satisfying curve,
Grating shade, buoyant lightness,
Uneasy texture, or solid feel.
Discovery is the drug
That keeps me coming back
For another suggestive shape,
Another confusing movement,
Another pushy colour,
That keep my mind alert and
The juices flowing.
Seeing is the point.
Intrigue is the goal.
Simply that.
* This title was influenced by John Ashbery’s book of poetry “Notes from the Air”. When asked about the title, Ashbery said his ideas came from the air, or possibly his subconscious. I liked this idea as it seemed to describe the way paintings develop for me.

FORMES DE L’AIR*
Une libération lente,
D’associations, de sentiments, de reconnaissances.
Une douce courbe, un recoin découvert,
Un ombre senti, une espace permise,
Une vision planaire, une pavane délicate,
Une randonnée sur des pistes inconnues.
Aucune illustration de théories ruminées,
Ou déclaration sur l’état du monde.
Plutôt, une réflexion méandreuse d’une obsession
Avec la couleur et la forme, et comment elles s’agencent furtivement
Et s’offrent l’une et l’autre un soutien,
Et de l’énergie.
Ne cherchant aucune signification personnelle,
Ni intention de guider votre vision,
J’offre des poèmes visuels, ou surfaces apparentées à la musique,
Où couleurs et formes
Agissent sur moi, et vous, avec ligne élégante,
Contrepoint, courbe satisfaisante,
Nuance irritante, légèreté pleine d’entrain,
Texture déconcertante, ou touche solide.
Découverte est la drogue
Qui me fait revenir
Pour une autre forme évocatrice,
Un autre mouvement déroutant,
Une autre couleur insistante,
Qui gardent mon esprit éveillé et
L’eau à la bouche.
Voir, c’est le point,
Intrigue, le but,
Tout simplement.

* Ce titre a été influence par le livre de poésie de John Ashbery “Notes from the Air”. Interrogé sur son titre, Ashbery a répondu que ses idées venait de l’air, ou possiblement son subconscient. J’aimais cette idée de l’air, car c’est comment mes peintures évoluent.
